Honey the Golden Retriever

How can Therapy animals help?

Physical benefits

The soothing presence of animals can decrease levels of cortisol (stress hormone), allowing people to be more motivated and open to learning.  The simple act of petting releases an automatic relaxation response, promoting the release of serotonin, prolactin and oxytocin - all hormones that can play a part in elevating mood.  This promotes feelings of safety and provides a source of contact comfort.

Mental health

Animals can decrease loneliness and depression by providing companionship, promoting interesting and varied experiences and providing impetus for nurturing.  Research has attributed a social lubricant role to therapy animals, who promote positive interaction and conversation between people.

Social skills & learning

Animals teach empathy and help individuals develop social skills.  They help people learn how to express their feelings, which enhances their relationship with peers, teachers, co-workers.  Animals don't pass judgement, often resulting in gains in confidence.  Learner anxiety decreases, leading to improved learning outcomes such as reading and writing.

'Animals are such agreeable friends.  They ask no questions, they pass no criticisms.'
~George Elliot

What do we do?

We work with teachers, therapists, caregivers and workplaces to achieve specific outcomes.  Our visits can be as informal or formal as required.
We often find that just by being present, our animals attract those that need them the most.
Formal sessions my be delivered to individual clients or small groups.  Depending on what goals have been set for the individual or group, there are many different activities we can do that revolve around the animals.

Honey

Honey is a 5 year old golden retriever.  She is a Certified Visiting Therapy Dog and an accredited Story Dog.  She is always 'smiling' and loves pats and cuddles!

Bandit, Bingo, Stripe

Yes, these little piggies are named after Bluey characters!  They love to be held, especially if you are offering a carrot stick or two.  When they're not eating they are very chatty!

We pride ourselves in providing the safest experience possible and are fully insured.
Our animals are extremely well cared for, clean and up to date on all vet checks, vaccinations and treatments.  They will not undertake any work if they are unwell.  Honey has been certified by Lead The Way  as a Visiting Therapy Dog.
